In the book of Acts, Paul is sent to a place called "Berea, after being ejected from Thessalonica. The Bereans, when talked to by Paul, did not just accept it, without a thorough examination of the message he gave. So, in essence, I'm doing three things, when I confront him with this.

1. Reminding him that nowhere in Scripture are we told to accept the word of one person as "gospel", unless it is affirmed by Scripture, and accompanied by Scripture.

2. Repudiating his claim that I don't know what I'm talking about, or am somehow lacking in scholarship. Not as a pride thing, but as a "correct" thing. When I state things as "fact", it's usually out of scripture, and backed up by scripture. Anyone who claims otherwise is free to refute what I say - and back that up with Scripture. I'm inviting him to do so.

3. Testing to see whether he knows who the Bereans are.
