| Background |
As prefaced in the documents concerning the "Dissenters Movement",
the Centric Assembly is not a body that formed overnight. It is the
product of years, and the result of a host of factors and cultural
significances.
It's roots go back to the Dissent Movement, as we've already
stated. It's evolution, however, was sent along it's current path by
the events leading up to the League War.
In the aftermath of the Dissent War, the factions retreated to their
own territories to consolidate their gains, and to mend the breaks the
conflict had made in their very societies. An uneasy peace ensued,
encouraged by the anarchy prevalent within unregulated space, and the
relatively unblooded state of Hyperial's space forces, due to it's
short stint in actual combat. They were not quiescent in peace, either.
TRI's pride, and it's goals, had suffered what many thought to be
mortal blows. Humanity was no longer united to reconstruct the galaxy,
and the very existence of TRI's charter and purpose were called into
question.

| Buildup |
Then, came the news. The Warlords established an iron-fisted
control over their respective guilds, and there was truly a force to be
reckoned with in unregulated space. A precarious peace still held,
however, as all parties wished to collect themselves before any
protracted struggle was even considered. TRI, especially, had no
interest in war.
More news filtered through TRINN and the other fledgling news services.
The Pathos had arrived at their destination, and were established on a
new world - they named it "Patho", as they intended from the first.
Communication was exchanged, but any attempts at discovery of the
planets location were foiled. Meanwhile, Hyperial and the ICPA
announced the formation of the Dissenter's League. It only made sense,
notwithstanding of their true regard for one another. They were not the
best of friends. But diplomacy, like war, makes strange bedfellows.
The buildup continued, and the rumors leaking from Pathos
caused nothing but more concern among the galaxy's cooler heads. Pathos
was gearing for war before their prefabricated buildings were cooled.
Hyperial announced the discovery - very belatedly - that it had founded
a colony of its own, in AT 112 - which they called "Antioch". |
| Powder Keg |
This news infuriated the Quantar, who still seethed over the acceptance
of terms from the Hyperions in AT 119, as well as the handover of
Klatches Hold. The ancient hatreds were very much alive. But they too,
bided their time. Shipyards churned out massive amounts of ships,
contruction continued at a breakneck pace on all sides, and the
attitude of aversion to war gradually changed to one of fatalistic
expectation.
A group of zealots decided that they had waited long enough. On
134.7.12, a group of 72 Quantar pilots swept into Hyperial space,
brushing aside the bored defenders, and rushing into the Hypsos sector.
With a massive broadside of nukes and torpedoes, they proceeded to
attack Hyperial station - with a vengeance. Although their attack only
caused moderate damage to the reinforced and expanded station,
Hyperial's demands for apologies were answered only with a stony
silence by Quantar diplomats. The exchange of War Declarations came
only minutes apart.
So began the League War. Unwilling, or unable to risk the loss of
Quantar's contributions to TRI's war efforts, Octavius quickly joined
the fray, followed by Solrain. The ICPA, eager to flex it's newfound
muscle, and more than a little afraid of losing it's only ally, threw
it's weight behind Hyperial against TRI. |
| The League War |
The war went substantially in favor of TRI for the first 18 months.
It's well-established economy, infrastructure and creditbase served it
well, and they looked poised to defeat the fledgling League. Hyperial's
requests to Pathos, however, were not ignored. Pathos understood the
honor involved in paying its debts, and they respected Hyperial's
eagerness for expansion. Into the fray came the sleek, newly minted
fighters of the Pathos Republic. Their tactics were unorthodox, their
training, superb, and their equipment was second to none. Balanced with
their prowess was their lack of raw numbers - which TRI would always
hold the advantage in.
After another 14 months of vicious fighting, TRI contacted Hyperial
with a truce offer. It was accepted. Both sides were battered and
bloodied nearly to exhaustion, yet very little ground had been gained,
or lost, by either side. Once again, the combatants withdrew to lick
their wounds. Once again, they began to build and to grow. Warily.
Out of the sheer destruction of the League War came two
political powerhouses. The Centric Assembly, and the Aman-Nexia trade
and defense treaty. The Assembly, in it's completed state, consists of
Hyperial, Pathos, and the Independent Conract Pilot's Association.
While in many ways only a loose assemblage providing solely for the
common defense and the advancement of trade, the Assembly is also an
important vehicle for cooperation. Hyperial is foremost in weapons
design and medical research. The resources within ICPA territory are
astoundingly vast. Pathos' expertise and advancement are second only to
Nexia's. These three combined make a formidable team. |
